


On the July 16 episode of SmackDown, after SmackDown Women's Champion Bayley and Ember Moon won their tag team match in which Moon scored the pin, Bayley selected Moon as the number one contender for her title at SummerSlam. After Lynch's match on the July 29 episode, Natalya applied the Sharpshooter on Lynch and later suggested a submission match, which was made official the following week. On the July 15 episode of Raw, Natalya won a fatal four-way elimination match to determine the number one contender against Becky Lynch for the Raw Women's Championship at SummerSlam. Lesnar would then attack Rollins one final time before their match on the next Raw, after Rollins tried to confront him with a steel chair. Subsequently, Lesnar stopped the ambulance in which Rollins was, and dragged him out, delivering another F-5 onto the stretcher. Rollins was then stretchered out of the arena. On the July 29 edition of Raw, Lesnar brutally attacked Rollins during his match with Dolph Ziggler, with several steel chair shots and F-5's onto the canvass, the steel chair, into the ringpost, which injured Rollins' ribs in the process( kayfabe) and caused him to bleed from his mouth. During Raw Reunion on July 22, Lesnar's advocate Paul Heyman stated that Lesnar cashed in on Rollins because Rollins had done the same to Lesnar back at WrestleMania 31 in March 2015. On the following night's Raw, Rollins won a cross-brand 10-man battle royal to earn a rematch against Lesnar at SummerSlam.

After teasing some cash-ins, Lesnar finally cashed in his Money in the Bank contract at Extreme Rules and won back the Universal Championship right after Rollins had just retained the title. Lesnar then disappeared from television for several weeks before inserting himself in the 2019 Money in the Bank ladder match and won, earning a match for a world championship of his choice at any time within the next year.
